CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS GIFT PROJECT
One of our Christmas projects this year is to provide gifts to the children at the Bethany Christian Mission Center, a non-denominational non-profit in Campton, Kentucky. It is also our Mission of the Month for October.
Located in the hills of Eastern Kentucky, in a very economically depressed area, BCMC began in 1925 when a woman answered the call for Christian workers in the Appalachian Mountains. While walking 17 miles to make visits on a Christmas Eve, she found about 50 orphans living with families, most of whom had next to nothing. She and an associate began the Children’s home in a log cabin loaned to them, with 5 orphaned children.
In 1986 the status of the mission center was changed from home to boarding school. Day students were also accepted. Presently, they have a thrift store to help their neighbors and distribute food from a church in Lexington to those in need.
There are currently 47 students, 37 are 2years old (Pre-school) to 3rd grade, and 10 in 4th to 8th grade. We will have individual names , ages and their needs and wishes so we may purchase gifts for them. We also have the opportunity to help the school with the basic items listed below. Your donations may be dropped off in the Gathering Area any time.
